Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed. Compounded GLP-1 medications are not generic versions of Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, or Zepbound®. They are personalized formulations prepared by a state-licensed compounding pharmacy based on a prescription from a licensed physician.
Compounded GLP-1 medications may contain semaglutide as an active pharmaceutical ingredient. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and injection site reactions. Serious side effects may include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney injury, severe hypoglycemia, and allergic reactions. Do not use if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Tell your physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. GLP-1 medications are not recommended during pregnancy.
